Propecia™ (or Proscar™) is a reasonably good product for some men, although it does have several disadvantages and cannot be used by women, because of its potential side effects. Its active ingredient is the drug Finasteride.

However, since its introduction in 1994, the Propecia™ hairloss treatment drug doesn't seem to have been improved much.

On the other hand, since the introduction of its revolutionary version  in 1996, non-drug botanical HairGenesis™ has gone through continuous research and development and various clinical trials and studies, with continuous product improvements and four significant  evolutionary changes.

  • Propecia uses the drug 1mg Finasteride, which has been shown to help block one of the two isoforms or types of the 5 alpha reductase (5AR) enzyme, which has been proven to trigger pattern hairloss. Proscar uses 5mg Finasteride. Propecia does help some men reduce or slow down the rate of thinning hair and hair loss due to male pattern hair loss and also to help grow some hair back.

  • Propecia does have the same kind of independently verified FDA-regulated, IRB research study as does HairGenesis, proving that it does work to one extent or another for some men.

Rogaine™ is a reasonably good product for some men and women, although it does have several disadvantages. It is sold as either Minoxidil 2% (for men or women) or Minoxidil 5% (for men only). You may also buy the generic form of either Minoxidil 2% (for man or woman) or Minoxidil 5% extra strength solution (for man).

However, since its introduction in 1988, Rogaine™ doesn't seem to have been improved much, except for the change from Minoxidil 2% solution to Minoxidil 5% extra strength solution.

On the other hand, since the introduction of its revolutionary version  in 1996, non-drug botanical HairGenesis™ has gone through continuous research and development and various clinical trials and studies, with continuous product improvements and four significant  evolutionary changes.
  • Rogaine uses the drug Minoxidil which has been shown to help some men and women reduce or slow down the rate of male or female pattern hair loss and to help grow some hair back.

  • Rogaine does have the same kind of independently verified FDA-regulated, IRB research study as does HairGenesis, proving that it does work for a small percentage of men and women.

  • Rogaine (or its generic form of Minoxidil) is generally very inexpensive to buy.

  • Compare the Shampoo Products
    > Propecia™ (and Proscar™) do not have a Shampoo product to treat the effects of thinning hair and hairloss externally on the scalp, where research has shown that DHT is also synthesized and causes you to lose your hair.

    > Rogaine™ itself does not have a Shampoo product to treat the effects of thinning hair and hairloss.

    > The HairGenesis Revitalizing Shampoo is a very effective and important product for properly treating thinning hair and hair loss. It contains botanical DHT blocking ingredients, the same which are in the Topical Activator and Oral Soft Gels. While you are washing your hair and cleansing your scalp, it helps to remove accumulated DHT, sebum oil and mineral deposits from both the scalp and hair follicles. HairGenesis also adds DHT blockers directly into your hair follicles to help protect them from the negative affects of DHT which may accumulate inside.

  • Compare the Topical Products
    > Propecia™ (and Proscar™) do not have a Topical product to treat the effects of thinning hair and hairloss externally on the scalp, where research has shown that DHT is also synthesized and causes you to lose your hair.

    > Rogaine topical lotion contains either Minoxidil 2% solution (for men or women) or 5% Minoxidil solution (for men only) and must be used everyday, twice a day. Furthermore, it must be used continuously, to really be effective long term, if at all, even for the limited success rate which Minoxidil has to begin with. Not everyone responds to Minoxidil use. Minoxidil is formulated to work only on the top crown area of the scalp - the area that doctors call the Vertex. It generally does not work effectively, or at all, on the front receding hair line area or in the back area of the scalp. Look at these Norwood hair loss diagrams to see where the Vertex area is located.

    > The HairGenesis Topical Activator should be more effective. It does not use Minoxidil or any other drugs. Instead, it too contains a strong formulation of the same botanical DHT blocking ingredients which are in the Shampoo and Soft Gel DHT Blockers including Beta Sitosterol and the most effective version of Saw Palmetto. Moreover, it works on all areas of hair loss: the front receding hair line, the top crown area as well as the back area of the scalp. It further helps protect your hair follicles internally from the harmful effects of DHT and helps stimulate them for growth.

    > There are various known potential side effects which some users of the RogaineMinoxidil topical lotion may experience. People report that Minoxidil also leaves the scalp and hair oily and greasy. Additionally, women cannot use a 5% Minoxidil topical solution as it is known to cause facial hairs to grow on them.

Clinical research by Rogaine and others has shown that if you ever stop using Minoxidil for hair loss treatment, all of the hair which you may have grown back, will fall out again, and you will look like you would have, had you never started to use the product. So you would have to use the Minoxidil product continuously to maintain any results or benefits that you may have obtained during the course of that treatment. This may be an important consideration when deciding if you should even start using a hairloss treatment remedy which relies upon Minoxidil.

    > The HairGenesis Topical Activator has no known potential harmful side effects. Moreover, the HairGenesis Topical Activator is more convenient to use. You only need to apply it once a day, in the evening, whereas you must for the Rogain Minoxidil topical product twice a day.

    > The actual effectiveness, long term, or proven success rate of Minoxidil, as used in Rogaine, for treating pattern hairloss in men or women, whether Minoxidil 2% or Minoxidil 5% solution, according to the FDA, is just 26% for men and 19% for women.

  • Compare the Oral Products
    > Propecia™ is an Oral product which uses 1mg of the synthetic drug Finasteride. The active ingredient in Proscar™ is 5mg of the synthetic drug Finasteride. There are two isoforms or types (Type 1 and Type 2) of the 5 alpha reductase (5AR) enzyme, which converts Testosterone into Di Hydro Testostrerone ( DHT ), the hormone proven to cause pattern hair loss in men and women.
Finasteride has been shown to block the activity of only Type 2 of the  5AR enzyme.

Propecia™ (and Proscar™) do provide various degrees of results for some men in helping them to stop or reverse the effects of thinning hair and hair loss. However, there are potential side effects, both short-term and long-term with the use of the Finasteride drug, which may be of particular importance to you. There are certain safety concerns and adverse warnings which you should be informed about before buying these products.

    > Rogaine™ does not have an Oral product, which would be critically important to block the metabolism or formation of DHT in the body and on the scalp.

    > The Oral Soft Gels contain strong botanical DHT blocking ingredients which block the activity of both isoforms or types (Type 1 and Type 2) of the 5 alpha reductase (5AR) enzyme, which converts Testosterone into Di Hydro Testostrerone ( DHT ), the hormone proven to cause pattern hair loss in men and women. So the HairGenesis™ Oral Soft Gels should be more effective than the Finasteride prescription tablets of Propecia™ or Proscar™.

The HairGenesis™ Oral Soft Gels, contain Saw Palmetto,  Beta-Sitoserol and a powerful host of other clinically-proven botanical substances which have been shown to effectively block the formation and metabolism of DHT both in the body and on the scalp itself:
Beta Sitosterol, Saw Palmetto Berry Extract, Macadamia Nut Oil, Borage Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Genestein, Pygeum Africanum, Green Tea Extract, Niacin, Biotin

HairGenesis™ uses the highest potency of Saw Palmetto (85%-95% liposterolic content) in the highest dose (200 mg. per capsule) of any hair loss treatment product currently available.

There are no known side effects of using this product.

  • Compare the Research Studies
    > There are two hair loss treatment products on the market both of which are classified by the FDA as drugs, which have indepentdently proven FDA-regulated IRB research studies which support their respective claims for effectiveness and success. These two hairloss remedy products are Propecia™ and Rogaine™.

If the use of drugs like Minoxidil or Finasteride was the most safe and effective overall treatment available today, then Dr. Marcovici of HairGenesis™ (who introduced the revolutionary idea of treating hairloss by combining the use of Minoxidil plus the botanical ingredient Saw Palmetto in 1996) would not have continued to research other alternatives and in order to find more effective botanical ingredients to treat hair loss.

    > The HairGenesis™ claims of safety, effectiveness and success rate are based on a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical research study that was independently conducted and verified according to FDA-regulated, IRB-standards. It seems that few companies submit their hairloss treatment products to such an independent and high-standard review and analysis, perhaps because the cost of conducting such a study is very expensive or because the actual clinical results might be shown to be much lower than the claims they are making.

HairGenesis™ is therefore a proven and reliable botanical alternative to the hairloss treatment drugs Rogaine™ (and other Minoxidil-based products, such as Avacore, Hair Advantage™ and Follicare®) and Propecia™ and Proscar™.

Hair Genesis™ is the only Non-Drug (naturally-derived from herbal and botanical sources) hair growth hair loss treatment product with DHT Blockers supported by an independent and published FDA-Regulated, IRB-Monitored research study. HairGenesis™ is genuinely clinically-proven to be safe and effective for both men and women to help stop hair from thinning, hair loss and help regrow hair naturally.

    > The HairGenesis™ research study and data have been accepted for publication in a prestigious Peer-Reviewed scientific or medical journal (click to read: www.pubmed.com) and is available to the public for reading.
[ in this publication, "Marcovici G" is Dr. Geno Marcovici of HairGenesis™ ]

  • Compare the Overall Product Prices
    > Prices for Propecia™ may vary significantly and the average monthly cost may depend on how much of a supply you order. However, in general, it costs around $400 to $600 for each one year prescription. If you buy only a 3-month or 6-month supply, then your overall cost for a one year supply may be significantly more.

    > Rogaine™, whether a 2% Minoxidil solution or the 5% Minoxidil extra strength solution, is a hair loss treatment remedy based on science and knowledge of thinning hair and hair loss that existed from around 1988 to 1993. Since then, however, more advanced research and development has shown that the use of other ingredients, such as botanical substances, has tremendous advantages for both safety and effectiveness for helping more males and females stop and reverse the effects of thinning hair and pattern hair loss.

If you are determined to use Minoxidil in treating your pattern hair loss, you might save a lot of money by purchasing generic Minoxidil topical solution at the local pharmacy and perhaps also getting a bottle of Saw Palmetto at the health food store.

    > HairGenesis™, based on naturally-derived botanical formulas, costs significantly less than both Propecia™ and Rogaine™, as shown in the price comparisons above.

The Importance of Using both Oral and Topical hair loss treatment products

Research shows that DHT is synthesized not only internally in the body, but also on the scalp. That's why it is necessary to use a hairloss treatment system that includes both oral and topical products which block and stop the effects of DHT both internally and topically. This is one reason why HairGenesis™ is more effective than other hair loss treatment products.

You may order individual products (Soft Gel DHT Blockers, Shampoo, Topical Activator). You'll save more money when you order a complete
HairGenesis™ Best Value Pack. A value pack also includes Revitalizing Shampoo with DHT Blockers and Topical Activator with DHT Blockers. Combining the Shampoo and Topical Activator with the Soft Gel DHT Blockers is a more effective treatment overall.

The Oral Soft Gels contain DHT blocking ingredients which block the activity of both types of the 5AR enzyme (Type 1 and Type 2) which converts  Testostrerone into Di Hydro Testostrerone ( DHT ), the hormone proven to cause pattern hair loss in men and women.

The Shampoo and Topical Activator both contain DHT Blocking ingredients. The Shampoo helps remove DHT and accumulated sebum oil and mineral deposits from the scalp and hair follicles as well as providing DHT blocking ingredients to protect your hair follicles. The Topical Activator further helps protect your hair follicles on the inside from the harmful effects of DHT and helps stimulate them for growth.

Compare Propecia (1mg Finasteride), Proscar (5 mg Finasteride), Rogaine for men (2% or 5% Minoxidil), Rogain for women (2% Minoxidil) and botanical HairGenesis. Do these drugs work as effective as drug free HairGenesis in stopping hair loss and reversing the effects of DHT on thinning hair due to male and female pattern hairloss (androgenetic alopecia)?

Prior to 1988, there were few, if any, effective treatments for male or female pattern hair loss. Then, while developing a treatment for hypertension and high blood pressure, medical researchers discovered that the Minoxidil drug they were using, appeared to have some incidental side benefit to some of their patients. A small percentage of the men had a decrease or slow down of hair loss. For others, some of their hair even grew back. The Minoxidil drug (2% solution) was put into a topical lotion and began being marketed as Rogaine.

Success rates were very low with limited effectiveness (about 26% for men). Nevertheless, given the other choices, such as hair weaves, wigs and hair transplants, many opted for the Rogaine™ alternative.

In 1993, the FDA approved for sale a Rogaine™ 5% Minoxidil extra strength solution for treating thinning hair and hairloss. But still its effectiveness was very little to what most people seem to want and expect for a successful hair loss treatment.

In 1994, a new hair loss treatment prescription drug, 1 mg Finasteride, sold under the brand name Propecia™, appeared on the market. It showed more promising potential results for more men. But it was very costly, and still is today. Moreover, there are various potential negative side effects, one of which could be serious.

Researchers continued to look for other alternatives to the drugs Rogaine™ and Propecia™. One of these is Dr. Geno Marcovici of HairGenesis™. Based on research and various clinical studies, he concluded that using a botanical substance such as Saw Palmetto might prove to be as effective or even more effective in treating hair loss than the drug options. Moreover, it might be safer to use without the potential side effects that both Minoxidil (such as Rogaine Avacor™, Hair Advantage™ and Follicare®) and Finasteride (such as Propecia™ and Proscar™) can produce.

In 1996, he introduced a revolutionary concept in hair loss treatment products by combining the use of Minoxidil 5% topical lotion with an oral pill containing the botanical ingredient Saw Palmetto. This unqiue combination quickly proved to be a success and within a few years, others, such as Avacor™, Hair Advantage™ and Follicare®, were using a similar concept.

But Dr. Marcovici believed that an even more effective solution to male and female pattern hair loss could be developed using a 100% botanically-derived active composition, without the use of Minoxidil or any other drug components. Through extensive research and clinical trials and studies, in 2000, HairGenesis™ introduced, for the first time, another revolutionary concept, which is a complete safe and effective hairloss treatment product line for men or women with balding or thinning hair problems, comprised of a 100% botanically-derived active composition.

Through on-going research and development, the HairGenesis™ treatment remedy continues to be improved and made more safe and effective, helping an increasing number of men and women effectively treat their thinning hair and hairloss problems.

In 2003, HairGenesis™ introduced its latest and most advanced botanically-derived hair growth and hair loss treatment product line for men and women to date.
